Смоленск | Собор Успения | Успенский собор | Smolensk Собор Успения Пресвятой Богородицы — православный храм, расположенный в Смоленске и являющийся кафедральным собором Смоленской митрополии Русской православной церкви. Он находится в центральной части города, на Соборной горе, к юго-востоку от Благовещенского собора. Этот величественный храм был возведён на рубеже XVII и XVIII веков в честь героической обороны Смоленска в 1609—1611 годах, на месте древней церкви XII века, которая имела то же название. Главный престол собора освящён в честь Успения Пресвятой Богородицы, и внутри сохранились иконостас и убранство, выполненные в стиле киевского барокко. К соборному ансамблю также относятся Богоявленская церковь, расположенная над воротами, с деревянным завершением, построенная в 1785—1787 годах для проведения богослужений в холодное время года. Ещё одной важной частью ансамбля является колокольня, возведённая в 1767—1772 годах по проекту архитектора Петра Обухова. Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an Orthodox church located in Smolensk and is the cathedral of the Smolensk Metropolitanate of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is located in the central part of the city, on Cathedral Hill, southeast of the Annunciation Cathedral. This magnificent temple was built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries in honor of the heroic defense of Smolensk in 1609-1611, on the site of an ancient church of the 12th century, which had the same name. The main altar of the cathedral was consecrated in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the iconostasis and decoration, made in the Kiev Baroque style, have been preserved inside. The cathedral ensemble also includes the Epiphany Church, located above the gate, with a wooden finish, built in 1785-1787 for holding divine services in the cold season. Another important part of the ensemble is the bell tower, built in 1767-1772 by architect Peter Obukhov.
