Carl Zeiss Octarem 8x50 B (1986) | Binoculars | Fernglas | бинокль
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss, Jena (Germany) Application: Civil Era: 1980s Magnification: 8x Objective Lens Size: 50mm Field of View: 7.4° - 130m at 1000m Specifics: At the beginning of the 1980s, the company Carl Zeiss in Jena introduced the NOBILEM line. This initially consisted of two models: the 8x50 Super and the 12x50 Spezial. However, these models were only produced for five years, which is very short compared to the production life of other Carl Zeiss models. The reasons for this were allegedly high production costs. The first models of the NOBILEM line are often criticized for their poor handling due to the large binocular body and the relatively small central focus wheel, which is difficult to reach with normal hand sizes. In 1985, two completely new models were introduced under the names OCTAREM as the 8x50 version and DODECAREM as the 12x50 version. In terms of design, these were completely different from their predecessors and were reminiscent of the 7x50 U-Bootglas binoculars from WW2. These models were also available with rubber armor as the "GA" version (for "Gummi-Armierung"). The first versions of the OCTAREM had a field of view of 130m at 1000m, which was later reduced to 122m. Exactly when this change occurred is unknown. From 1990 onward, the 8x50 and 12x50 models bore the uniform designation NOBILEM. In addition, further versions in 7x50, 8x56, 10x50 and 15x60 were introduced. After the takeover by DOCTER in 1991, the NOBILEM line continued to be produced for several years. DOCTER made improvements to the coatings and later also changed the design.
