A Ballad Of Weapons (Баллада об оружии)
"Баллада об оружии" - A Ballad (Of/About) Weapons, Vladimir Vysotsky, USSR, 1973. First of all, if you want a real, decent translation of this song, I refer you to this translation: http://wysotsky.com/1033.htm?477
This video, again, a a literal translation made to be in time with the original song so you can follow along with Russian words, stress, and pronunciation. This song was written for the film "The Escape of Mr. McKinley", a 1975 Soviet sci-fi film. He wrote about 7 songs for the film, only 2 of which were used. This was not one of those two. Which is a shame, because this is one of the most powerful of those seven songs and a one of the most powerful songs of his in general. It is a power ballad about... weapons. Guns! This song details the chaos and life of a gun-filled world, and the differences between "little people" and "big people" (little and big not in terms of size, but in terms of wealth, power, and influence). A gripping song from the beginning to the end. Again, for a real interpretation of the song, and if you really want to accurately simulate the raw passion and emotion behind this ballad, please follow along with this more interpretive and better-flowing translation, which I will link to again: http://wysotsky.com/1033.htm?477
