Послушајте патриоти/ Listen up patriots (Macedonian patriotic song)
This song was made to honor the Macedonian writer and revolutionary Alexandar Karagjule from Ohrid (or Ohridski). He was part of the Macedonian movement in Bulgaria which aimed to create an independent Macedonian state at the heart of the Balkan. He was a writer for the newspaper "Makedonski glas" or when translated "Macedonian voice", in which he expressed his anger for the treatment of the Macedonians by the different Balkan states (Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, and Serbia) and their propaganda which aimed to assimilated them. He was killed by the Bulgarian government due to him speaking out against Bulgarian actions in Macedonia, he was tortured for months, beaten with sand bags, which, created internal bleeding, which led to his demise. He died in prison in 1892. Note: the so called Vrhovists mentioned were the supporters and members of the "Supreme Macedonian committee" which aimed to "liberate" Macedonia from the Ottomans, but their end goal was to annex it, so it becomes an official part of Bulgaria.
