Locked Away for Life Just Because Owner Was “Depressed” –She Wept the First Time She Was Shown Love! Meet Opal! Just look at her... She collapsed after only a few steps, even though she tried so hard to stay on her feet. It was heartbreaking. She's about two years old, and weighs only 25 pounds. One of the skinniest dogs I’ve ever seen in my life... Opal had been abandoned by her owner—because he said he was simply "bored" of her. For almost a year, he locked her away in a garage, hidden from the world. No sunlight. No affection. Just loneliness and suffering. She reeked of urine, and her body was burning up with a dangerously high fever. Yet... despite all of that, her tail never stopped wagging. That tiny tail kept thumping with hope. Her bones were so visible, we had to be extremely careful when feeding her—slow and steady. You could clearly see her ribs, her spine, and her hip bones. She was fragile... but she was still fighting. Opal had a long road ahead. She was barely able to stand, collapsing multiple times. Her body temperature was stable, but her legs and paws were ice cold. Every single moment mattered. Every breath was precious. We knew she was hanging by a thread—and we promised to fight alongside her. Our vet ran bloodwork again—and to our relief, we started seeing positive changes. Neurological exams came back clear—no signs of brain damage. And through it all, Opal never stopped being sweet. She adored cuddles, and soaked up every bit of love she was given. Her spirit was gentle, and her eyes still sparkled with kindness. I gave her two warm baths, but the scent of her past still lingered faintly. And yet, she began to feel more like a pet—a real, beloved pet. She was learning to be loved. Despite the cold weather, Opal enjoyed short walks outside. Step by step, she was returning to life. She slowly gained weight, and her legs no longer trembled with every step. She moved more naturally, more confidently. Though she still carried parasites and worms in her system, she remained strong. Our little warrior, our Opal, was pushing forward. Her body temperature became more consistent. She even started going potty on her own again—a huge victory! She continued to eat well, and her red blood cell count was improving. Best of all, her spirit felt lighter. Happier. She put on more weight, little by little. Her eyes became brighter. Her steps—more stable. Her heart—more open. We know there’s still a long way to go. But hope is stronger now. We're currently interviewing potential adopters—searching for the perfect forever home. And one day... Opal will have the life she always deserved. A life filled with warmth, joy, and unconditional love. Just a little longer, sweet girl. Hang in there, Opal. Your forever is coming. 💖🐾 Special Thank To: bristexastails
